An accidental expat blogger behind Timber Lunar Paper

Hi, I'm Sophie
I work as a project manager. I am a parent. An expat based in Berlin, Germany.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Began
Moving to Germany wasn't in the original plan. As with many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were intense — unfamiliar systems, routines, and expectations. Daily tasks seemed more complex than they ought to be.
The Adaptation Phase
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of learning on the job. Yet gradually routines took shape. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.
Why I Created Timber Lunar Paper
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or superficial tourism content. What was absent was a frank, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to close that gap — pragmatic advice grounded in real life in Germany.
What This Site Does (And Doesn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from life in Germany
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever there is a real change
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- A sponsored review platform
- Just another generic travel blog
What Lies Ahead
Our stay in Germany continues, and the learning journey goes on. As long as the information remains helpful, I will keep recording what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Berlin or elsewhere in Germany, don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Sophie
